GFP HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
After Thanksgiving, Girl Flock Party started fundraising for Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. Pet adoption soared during the pandemic, but now animal shelters are facing a new crisis. Pets are being returned or abandoned and shelters are overcrowded and short staffed. I couldn’t not help especially during the holiday season. So I made it a point to start doing charity and/or volunteer work within my networking group, Girl Flock Party.
For the month of December, we raised funds for WCRAS. To make it interactive and fun, we offered Girl Flock Party merch as gifts for certain giving levels. $25 got you a sticker pack, $50 a mug, and $100 - a GFP tee shirt. We also had a fundraiser thermometer to gauge our progress. Our initial goal was $750. To make it even more enticing, I promised to take a pie in the face if we hit $750. We got so close fast, I knew I had to double down. So I upped the ante by saying if we hit our second goal of $1,000 - I would take two pies to the face. It got down to the wire of the night before our December 22nd deadline. We had a gracious GFP member swoop in last minute to donate the rest of what we needed to hit our 2nd fundraising goal.
During this time, I worked with April Peiffer, Community Programs Coordinator at WCRAS. We discussed having a donation presentation in January. So on January 5th at 12pm, the Girl Flock gang came out to present a giant check of $1,000 to WCRAS. The day of the event, we were given an additional $100 check to add to our donation making it a grand total of $1.1K! We also gathered much needed supplies for the shelter and donated blankets, sheets, treats, medical items, and more.
April took our picture and accepted the checks and donations, gave us a tour of the shelter, and educated us on volunteering, etc. After the presentation and tour, we rallied in the parking lot and got ready for the pie smash. Two of our lucky GFP members got to smash a pumpkin flavored whipped cream pie in my face. We made sure to take lots of photos and video. It was so much fun, but very messy!
It truly was a humbling experience as we toured the facility, seeing dogs in crates/cages at in-take, seeing how much work goes in to taking care of the animals behind the scenes, learning about their volunteer program, and knowing how valued our donation was to WCRAS.
To all of the ladies that joined in on that day, to all of our donors, those that shared our fundraiser and participated, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Girl Flock Party will continue to make an impact in the community throughout the year and during the giving season of the holidays. If you have a charity or organization that you’d like us to work with and contribute to, please let contact me.
