MY NETWORKING EVENT IN THE MAKING

In 2019, I threw a private bohemian-themed dinner party, inviting my close ATX friends. My friend groups consist of coworkers, neighbors, Bunco members, book club members, dinner club members, Camp Gladiator campers, and more. Each friend has a unique talent, small biz, or hobby to share. I thought it would be a good idea to blend them all together on a common factor, we are all boss babes and women should support each other. I also had a giveaway that consisted of prizes from local businesses, some where I am also friends with the owners, showcasing their fabulous products & art.

In 2020, I wanted to make it bigger and better! I had planned an off-site location and invited more ladies including the sponsors, my fellow colleagues in the creative industry, new friends, etc. I expanded on my giveaway and added more sponsors with amazing prizes. And then… I had to postpone the event due to COVID. Months went by and the world quarantined, waiting for answers. I didn’t know if I should cancel it all together or wait until 2021 to pick back up. But I knew we needed something to cling to and bond over, so I changed the name to Girl Flock Party and made it virtual. We had a Zoom party, while I hosted an online Women’s Trivia Game. We all dressed up in tropical attire and had fun Zoom backgrounds. It was a great evening of babes supporting babes!

And here we are, it’s 2021 and we are still navigating through this pandemic. This year’s event will be outdoors with a smaller guest list to be safe. To make it fun and cool in this Texas heat, it will be held at a private pool, thank you to Theresa of Always Sunny in Austin, a Swimply pool rental. The theme is Palm Springs (CA) and caftans, kimonos, head wraps and turban headbands are highly encouraged. Professional photographer Arielle Nalei of Photos by Ari will document the networking event, showcasing our sponsored prizes, gorgeous guests, and desert-tropical decorations. From my recent Instagram post, “My dream and goal is to make it open to the public. And maybe one day to have my own event venue. But today, I have to build momentum and relationships. I have to start small and somewhere. My mission now is to still celebrate friendship, girl power, promote small-local-woman owned businesses plus fellow creatives, and to network by building and fostering these relationships.
